Every other Monday evening, Marike will teach you everything about setting up and developing a portrait over the course of 13 lessons. We will cover proportions, anatomy, line and plane, and the effect of light and shadow. By learning to observe consciously and gaining a grasp of what you are actually seeing, you will learn how to truly draw.
To learn to draw well, you will work with charcoal. It is the perfect medium for creating realistic and lively drawings. After a few lessons, you will begin drawing from a live model, as this is how you learn to capture a living person on paper.
A challenging and educational workshop for beginners. If you already have experience, you are also welcome, as you can learn something new from every artist/instructor. Marike will guide you at your own level.
This course has a structured format with a clear beginning and end; joining mid-course is not possible.

Once you sign up, we will place you on the waiting list. As soon as a spot becomes available, we will contact you so you can let us know if you would like to start.
Do I need experience to participate in a course or workshop?
Not at all, you don't need any experience.
What should I bring to class?
You bring your own drawing and painting materials. If you don't have any yet, you can purchase materials from us in the store or via the webshop.
How does payment work?
Once you have been placed, you will receive a payment request. Your spot is confirmed once payment is received. Would you prefer to pay in cash? That is certainly possible. Just let us know.
Kan ik ook tussentijds instromen?
Ja, dat kan soms. Als er plek is, kun je instromen en dan betaal je naar rato voor het aantal lessen dat je nog kunt volgen.
What if I miss a class?
If you cancel in time, you can make up for missed classes. By arrangement, you can make up a maximum of three classes during one of the other course sessions within the current season. Please don't leave this until the final weeks.
I would love to be a model for portrait or figure drawing sometime; is that possible?

Is it easy to park at Atelier De Heerlijkheid?
Certainly, there is plenty of parking available at Driekoningenplein and next to the cemetery. We do ask that you park your car in a designated space, angled along the cemetery wall, to ensure there is room for other vehicles. Additionally, please make sure that wherever you park, wide agricultural vehicles can always pass through easily.
If you live nearby, it’s even better to come by bike. You can park it safely in our yard.
